Production Process for How to Make Custom Pants
If you are a clothing startup company wanting to know how to make custom pants for your customers, you must be aware there is a wide variety of pants available out there. Sweatpants, denims, jogging pants and leather pants are only a few of the different types available out there. The variety can get even larger once you put in gender preferences and different cuts since there are types of pants which are specifically made for either men or for women.
After you have selected which type of pants you are going to make, you can now think of a custom design for your pants. Custom pant designs do not have to be complex since your product is heavily focused on functionality and aesthetics are not always in the center of attention. However, you can come up with a unique design which can be associated to your brand and become common for all of your future pant designs. Much like how Levi’s have their traditional stamp on the belt area or Guess’ logo imprinted on the behind pocket, you can think of a unique design feature.
When you have design sketch ready, you can now work with a graphic designer to draw your idea as a digital design file. This file will later be on used as part of your custom pants tech pack (the technical term for the design files for clothing). The graphic designer needs to come up with multiple perspectives of the custom pants design such as front view and side view. Additional details and specifications such as trims and materials will now be added to the design and everything must be noted down in the tech pack of your product. Once everything is defined, your pants design is ready for sampling to see how it looks in reality.
Make sure you are working with a clothing factory staffed with tailors and seamstresses that are experienced when it comes to sewing custom pants. Their skills have to be versatile enough to accustom the style and preferences presented on your custom pants tech pack. Their skills and expertise will be crucial in product development to avoid additional costs and efforts for resampling. If they are experts in sewing pants, they can mostly get the job done in the first attempt. However, prepare extra budget for resampling as this is sometimes inevitable or minor changes can also be done during the mass production.
The Basic Design Elements of a Pants
A traditional pair of pants has distinct parts which are crucial to the outcome of the wholesale clothing product. Other custom pant designs may not have these parts due to specifications but let us list down a the parts that are commonly present in regular pants. Take note of these parts and make sure you focus on making them right for your custom pants project:
- Waist band – this is the band surrounding the waistline of the product and is crucial to the fit depending on the waistline size provided on the tech pack.
- Belt loops – several loops are scattered around the waist band of the pants and they are attached vertically to act as a loop where the belt can be inserted into and hold the belt in place.
- Pockets – they are normally found on both sides of the upper waist and buttocks area while some designs may also have them on the leg sides.
- Buttons – these trims are used to close the fly of the jeans.
- Zippers – used to close the opening part of the jeans and make it convenient to close the fly.
- Seams – these are parts of the jeans where the fabrics are actually sewn together to form the pair of pants.
There are a lot more parts in traditional pants but the six mentioned above are the most important parts found in a regular designs. Your tailor or seamstress must focus on these parts, has to know your specifications and has to make sure they are done right work properly. Any form of shortcomings or insufficient specification may result in an overall failure of the product. These parts work alongside each other to assure the full functionality of a simple pair of pants.
