History of the Bubble Wrap
In 1957, two inventors named Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes attempted to create a 3D plastic wallpaper that would break through as a modern type of textured wallpaper. They essentially did this by sealing two shower curtains together, but the project failed. Disappointed, they discarded the material and focused on a different project. However, being in one of those boring flights, Fielding was sparked by the idea that the material used for the textured wallpaper can be used to cushion products during shipping and transport. Thus, the purpose of the bubble wrap was diverted from being a wallpaper into a protective cushion for fragile items.Bubble wrap was then mass produced and became an instant hit. Alfred Fielding went on to start Sealed Air Corporation with bubble wrap as its main product. The packaging company is still relevant up to this day and has further expanded to work for packaging with other industries such as food and beverage.
